You push your trolley out of baggage claim after an eleven-hour flight. In the hall, someone is holding a sign with your name on it. They take your cases, and the car is parked below, in the car park under the terminal. You did not walk fifteen minutes, you did not search outside in the rain, you did not queue anywhere.
That ordinary-looking scene is open to a minority of drivers. It rests on an access authorisation granted by Aéroports de Paris, which the trade still calls the ADP badge.
What is the ADP badge?
It is the authorisation to enter the professional car parks beneath the terminals of CDG and Orly, and the Arrivals halls passengers walk into straight after baggage claim. It is granted on application: professional licence, entry in the VTC register, insurance, registered vehicle.
The name stayed, the object is gone. Aéroports de Paris is replacing the physical badge with automatic number plate recognition: the vehicle is registered once, and the barrier lifts as it arrives. No card to show, no terminal to tap, no wait at the entrance. For the passenger the difference is visible: the car does not stop at a booth, it drives straight down under the terminal. This badge grants access to the professional Arrivals areas of CDG and Orly terminals, the halls passengers walk into right after baggage claim, before reaching the outside doors.
